PTA Blocks 763, 202 Pornographic Websites in Pakistan

According to sources, Pakistan Telecommunication Authority has blocked 24,000 blasphemous web links and 200 porn websites in Pakistan this year. The information was provided by one of the top executives of PTA while telling the court about it.

The executive also told the judge about idea of creating a firewall which will help to eradicate blasphemous content from the internet. The complete progress will be told to the court in the next hearing.

The judge seemed satisfied by the measures taken by PTA and appreciated them for their serious concerns and the appropriate work done by them.

The Deputy Attorney General further told the court about a possible law that could be used to punish people involved in blasphemous content. But, the law will be first discussed in the parliament and then it will be approved by the house.

In the previous hearing, the Islamabad High Court also ordered the federal government to keep a close watch on pornographic content and take measures to stop such sites. The court also added to keep an eye on foreign movies and ban movies with inappropriate material.

This serious issue came in to the scene last year and since then several sites have been blocked by the government. The judge has also made clear that the committee can even intervene with social media to stop the growth of blasphemous content.

In its report, PTA has stated that around 85 percent blasphemous content has also been removed from the internet. In this attempt, 27 Muslim countries have also started a joint campaign to prevent such content.
