National Highways Authority’s Mobile App To Provide Live Traffic Updates On Highways

Naya Pakistan really has some improvements for us. The government sectors are working hard to make sure the people get their rights. The “Right to Information” is one such initiative. Right to Information (RTI) is the right that citizens have to access information from the government, as well as private bodies that receive public funds. Information belongs to the people. Under Article 19-A of the Constitution, RTI is a fundamental right in Pakistan.

For improved e-governance National Highways Authority has launched its own app. The app is available on Google Play as NHA-IS. The objective of the app is to ensure transparency in NHA affairs. The app will have live traffic updates and routes.

NHA  physically only covers 4.6% of the country’s road network. But, 80% of the commercial traffic uses NHA for their activities. National Highways Authority extends to almost 12000 km of road. It has a network of greater than 29 National Highways and Motorways. M1 and M2 are some of the examples.

NHA-IS App Features

NHA-IS app

NHA-IS has been focused on improving the service for users. Travelers and commuters will stay updated about the weather conditions. Moreover,  highway blockages and diversions will also be reported. The app features a systematic feedback channel to cater to the queries of the public.

The app also has an interactive map. This map is accurate to NHA standards. It gives details of all the districts of Pakistan. Additionally, the map also shows CPEC alignments, Highways chainage in KMs, Motorways chainage, Motorways interchanges, Weigh stations, and Toll Plazas.

The government is trying to cover every aspect of traveling information through this app. They are looking to expand the facilities the app provides. Though, for starters, the app only has limited data. It carries information about toll taxes so that people know exactly how much to pay for the route they wish to travel. The app also has a page about road safety guidelines. You can find emergency contact numbers in the app such as Edhi Ambulance Service, Fire Brigade Center, Punjab Rescue etc. The app also has information about upcoming NHA projects.

Most of them are admiring the government’s effort. This country needs to digitize its ministries and information. Though, there are some who are reporting issues. Hopefully, these issues will be kept in mind and the government works upon them.
